Rajasthan is the one of the most attractive destinations
in India for both domestic and International tourists. About 6 million people visit the State every year of which 9% are foreign tourists. On an average a domestic tourist spends Rs. 400 per day and an Iternational tourist spends Rs. 800 a day (M/s. A. F. Ferguson & Company). Rajasthan being poorly endowed in terms of water availability depend on the non-farm sector to develop its economy and improve the quality of life of its people. Hence the development of tourism has great relevance.

Amazing legends of heroism and romance still resound from its equally amazing architecture, that still stands to narrate its tale of a bygone era. The magic of Rajasthan is unequalled in the world for its heritage, culture, safaris, sand dunes and lush green forests with its wildlife. Rajasthan is often expressed as huge open-air museum with relic so well preserved for the travellers and the curious of the day. It is action-packed with outdoors too; take a safari on horses, camels, elephants or even jeeps with the Aravalis – India’s oldest mountain range in the backdrop, or caress your eyes on the sloppy sand dunes, or trail a tiger or just watch birds on wetland. Or you can choose to pamper yourself in the lavish heritage properties. Rajasthan has something for everyone, just choose your activity.

The magic of Rajasthan is unparallel in the world for its heritage, culture, safaris and sand dunes. Rajasthan is the land of Kings. It depicts the story of the great warriors and their chivalry, their romance, glory and tragedy. With invincible forts, magnificent palaces and serene lakes Rajasthan is truly called a land of valiance.

Rajasthan is known for its diversity in terms of natural resources, history and the people. The many forts and palaces, heritage hotels and attraction of travelling on the Palace On Wheels has been a unique selling proportion for tourists coming to the State. Colorful fairs and festivals are also greatly appreciated by visitors. The different ethnic culture of the people has proved to be a major attraction for visitors. The colorful attire of the people is a photographers delight. Today, Rajasthan is the image of India in the eyes of the tourism world. The unique desert environment in Western Rajasthan is a major attraction also. Rajasthan is an exotic destination visited by people interested in seeing something different, visiting unique place and participating in a joyous old culture.

The effort of the Government and Tourism Industry have been to improve the quality of the product and service available to the visiting tourists. This is being attempted by improving the dissemination of information; providing easier access through train, air and road transport; arranging for suitable accommodation; conservation of the Heritage forts, palaces and old monuments; improving the quality of service through Human Resource Development; developing ancillary leisure, entertainment and amusement facilities. With liberalization of the economy the role of the private sector in tourism is expected to grow manifold. The effort is to provide a conductive environment to increase private sector investment in the various joint sector. Some facilities are best developed wholly in the private sector, The effort of the Government of Rajasthan has been to create an investor and market friendly environment. This effort is most manifest in service sector activities like tourism.

As a part of the government effort to make a major thrust in improving the quality of the product and increasing the flow of tourists to the state, a series of measures have been attempted which should logically culminate in evolution of an investment plan for tourism which identifies areas in which investment is expected to come in the Public Sector, Joint Sector and Private Sector.

Introduction

Rajasthan Tour is famous among the travelers of the world as the land of heroism, the India destination where travelers hear incredible stories of romance and courage – bewitching enough to appear a fairy tale but real enough to have been a component of the region’s story. Rajasthan Today does not require a Rajputana warrior to charge on his warhorse into a battlefield for his kingdom, and women of Rajasthan are no longer unseeable under the [Photograph by Zé Eduardo ] “purdah system”, but an aura of the foregone era lingers. Whether it is inviolable forts, the magnificent palaces, the centuries-old shops and markets, or the silent sand dune of the Thar Desert, every nook and corner of the area has its own story to tell.

Lifestyle of Rajasthan

When the travelers are not “taking in the ambiance” in still communion, they can travel the bustling Fairs and Festivals of Rajasthan. While observing the local lifestyle of the people of Rajasthan, tourists will get an opportunity to watch the metal workers fastidiously make a fancy flower vase or decorated bowl, take in the dexterous hands of the rural young woman coloring linen materials into an dainty harmony of colors and patterns or comply the quick fingers of the local weavers dragging the famed carpets and “dhurries” of Rajasthan.

Rajasthan Camel Safari Tour

Camel safari in Rajasthan is one of the most liking activities among the travelers as old the imperial forts and colorful cities that break the humdrum of the endless sand and dunes. One of the first caravans journeying from East to the West on a trade mission, or ambassadors were being sent to India from kingdoms if Middle East, all of them completed the journey on camel back. Not much has shifted today, except for the fact that the travel in the Desert of Rajasthan is safer and more enjoyable now. Tourists do not have to concern about desert predators, about enemy armies, or getting hopelessly lost in the vast stretches of sand.

The Desert Triangle tour in Rajasthan blankets the three major cities in the Thar Desert Region – the cities of Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and Bikaner. However, the Desert Triangle Tour, in most cases, is not bounded to these cities. Some of the equally lovely, though little known, destinations extended in most Desert Triangle Safaris are the areas of Shekhawati and some of the smaller towns in the region.

How to Reach Rajasthan

Rajasthan, being a state that attracts travelers by the thousands annually, is very approachable and connected by the networks of Indian airways, Indian railways and Indian roadways. However, a network of trains links the major cities of Rajasthan to other cities of India, including the capital city of New Delhi. By Air Travel, tourists can reach to the domestic airport at Jaipur from almost all the metropolitan cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata etc. There are numerous other travelers who wish to travel by the roadways especially from Delhi. From Delhi, tourists can hire the car from the car rental companies like travelChaCha.com in advance to see

A well-oiled operation brings you the best of riding experiences: 22 Marwari, Kathiawadi and Sindhi horses can take you cross-country in unspoilt terrain. A team of one outrider, an ex-army cooks, a camp in charge, and folk musicians escort you through semi-desert terrain, forests,
salt lakes, marshes and flat grasslands. Camp is a luxurious affair, though you must bring your own chaps, helmet and boots. Confident riders best enjoy this holiday, though there’s no bar against beginners; you’ll cover 25-40 km a day. In November, you can join the Pushkar Fair Horse Safari (3-17 November, 8N/9D).

Pushkar Resort

And you thought it would be all sand. Try15 acres of green, 40 luxury airconditioned cottages with private sit-outs (single $50, double $60), restaurant, conference facility, golf driving range, swimming pool, a royal Kafila safari, telescopic star gazing, ayurvedic massages, sand volleyball, traditional Rajasthani performances… you can visit Pushkar’s sites of interest and crafts-shop till you drop. If you can make it in time for the Pushkar camel fair (November 16-19 this year) it’s well worth it. GETTING THERE from Delhi takes the NH-8 (400km, 7hrs) to Ajmer or the Shatabdi (Ajmer station is 11 km from the resort). You can also fly to Jaipur (130km/ 2.5hrs away) and drive down from there. Just ask for Motisar Road, Pushkar.
Chambal Valley

The famous Chambal ravines, home to dacoits and gharial, are the ultimate badlands… with a difference. If you drive just over an hour from Gwalior, you hit the rich archaeological sites of the Chambal valley- Morena, the circular temple of Mitawali, Dubkund and Kuno among others. The arid beauty of the land and the dramatic ravines can be very seductive. The forest Department has started river cruises on the Chambal. If water sport is your thing, consider rafting on the Chambal River in the Kota region between Jawahar Sagar and Dholpur. And there is the National Chambal Sanctuary in Morena-repository of the rare Gangetic dolphin, and gharial.
